For a lot of DIY enthusiasts one of the major problems is a lack of space to carry out their projects. In an ideal world, you would have a large out building that can be easily transformed into your workshop.
Trouble is,not everyone has this option so most people have to make do by trying to clear out their shed,or an even better idea is to transform your garage your home workshop. This is actually a much better idea than using a shed or an old outbuilding,as you will most likely already have electricity run into the garage along with lighting & power points.
You have the basic shell already in place, the major things you have to consider is fiiting it out with cupboards, toolracks etc.Probably the most important part of your workshop(if you have the space)is a good solid workbench.
These can either be bought at various DIY stores although some of them are not actually of good quality.Amuch more satisfying & probably cheaper alternative is to make your own.Search around you local wood supplier & you will be surprised at what you can pick up at reasonable prices. Before you try to build your bench you will need a good set of woodwork plans. These can be really useful as they give detailed instructions on sizes, with helpful instructions & diagrams. Some of the better plans will also have hundreds or even thousands of other designs,so they could be useful for years to come.
Once your bench is made, make sure it is positioned in a safe area, make sure there are no trip hazards & try to leave enough space so that you are able to walk all the way around it.This will make life much easier if you come to tackle larger projects at a later date.
